Toren Trekking Route
Over the past few years, the Torean Trekking Route has become one of the most popular descent trails on Mount Rinjani, attracting both domestic and international travelers.
After reaching the summit, many hikers now choose to descend via Torean because it offers a completely different experience compared to the traditional trekking routes.
As a local trekking guide at Queen Rinjani Trekking, I have witnessed this growing trend firsthand. More and more guests specifically request the Torean Route after hearing
about its breathtaking scenery and unique natural attractions. For many hikers, the descent through Torean becomes the highlight of their entire Mount Rinjani adventure.
One of the main reasons is its extraordinary landscape. Unlike the open savanna of the Sembalun Route, the Torean Route takes hikers through a spectacular green valley surrounded by towering mountain ridges, tropical forests, rivers, and dramatic cliffs.
Every section of the trail offers a different perspective of Mount Rinjani's natural beauty.
One unforgettable moment happens when our guests first see the vast green valley below. Almost every group stops walking for a few minutes to admire the incredible scenery.
Many international hikers spontaneously say, "Wow... Wonderful!" because the landscape reminds them of scenes from the famous movie Jurassic Park. The towering cliffs, untouched rainforest, crystal-clear rivers, and peaceful atmosphere create an unforgettable experience unlike any other trail on Mount Rinjani.
Another highlight of the Torean Route is the opportunity to visit the famous Aik Kalak Hot Springs, where hikers can relax in naturally warm mineral water after many hours of trekking.
This peaceful stop allows trekkers to recover their energy while enjoying the beautiful mountain surroundings.
Not far from the hot springs lies the spectacular Penimbungan Waterfall, one of the hidden gems of Mount Rinjani National Park. The moment our guests first see this waterfall, many immediately take out their cameras to capture its beauty.
Some choose to sit quietly and enjoy the cool mountain air, while others simply stand in silence, amazed by the peaceful atmosphere. As a local guide, seeing the excitement and happiness on our guests' faces at this location is always one of the most rewarding moments of every trek.
From our experience as local trekking guides and porters, the Torean Route also offers practical advantages. Several clean natural springs along the trail provide fresh water for drinking and cooking, helping us deliver better service to our guests throughout the journey
Although the Torean Route is approximately 11 kilometers long—longer than both the Sembalun Route and the Senaru Route, which are each around 9 kilometers—many guides and porters consider it less physically demanding. The reason is that the terrain is more varied, combining gentle climbs, descents, and relatively flat sections instead of long continuous uphill or downhill trails.
This makes the journey feel more comfortable, even while carrying camping equipment and food supplies.
Another advantage is the availability of several excellent resting points with clean natural spring water, including:
- Propok Rest Area
- Banyu Urip Spring
- Spring before Birisan Nangka
- Birisan Nangka Spring
Hot Spring Water
These natural springs are extremely valuable for both trekkers and trekking crews, especially during the dry season. They not only provide fresh drinking water but also make the Torean Route one of the most comfortable and enjoyable trekking experiences on Mount Rinjani.
